The Power of Positive Affirmations

Embrace the Quick-Fix Power of Positive Affirmations

We’re always looking for a quick fix, an easy way to make our lives more convenient. And in our technology based society, there’s an app to help us do just about everything. Apps that get you from here to there. Apps that convert currencies. There’s even an app to level a picture on your wall (I love that one).

What if there was a quick way to make our mental and emotional lives just as easy and trouble free? There is. It’s called the power of positive affirmations. Want to get from here to there mentally? There’s an aff(irmation) for that. Want to convert negatives into positives? There’s an aff for that. Want to level out your emotions? Guess what? There’s an aff for that too.

What Are Affirmations?

Affirmations are wonderfully positive thoughts that fill the not so wonderful space we call our mind with power and energy. The mind can be a scary place. It’s where the ego hides, waiting to pounce on any iota of joy or self-assuredness we have. It’s where negativity and doubt can fester. What we must understand is that we create our reality with our thoughts. We can manifest a beautiful, happy life with positive thoughts or or an oh woe is me kind of life with negative thoughts. It’s all in the way we spin it.

Louise Hay, founder of the publishing company Hay Houseis the mother of affirmations and positive thinking. In her book, You Can Heal Your Life, she writes about her fight against incurable cancer. When the doctors told her she had no chance to live, she realized that she had to heal herself – from the inside out. She had to get to the source of the deep rooted emotional wounds that she intuitively knew caused her cancer.

In Louise’s estimation, most cancers are caused by resentment and negativity eating away at the body.  She changed her thought patterns from negative to positive and healed her emotional wounds with the power of affirmations. After an exhausting emotional, mental and physical journey, Louise cured her “incurable” cancer and has lived a long life helping others with her beautiful affirmations.

{I had the honor of meeting Louise Hay in San Diego a few years ago.}

So how do you get started changing negative thoughts into positive ones? First, by knowing that there is an affirmation or positive thought for everything that ails you. Then, by trusting that everything will be as it should.

Resources to Build Your Aff Library

I champion many books for emotional healing, but there’s a handful that are particularly relevant for learn more about the power of positive affirmations.

When I’m having a physical problem, I pull out Louise Hay’s book, Heal Your Body A-Z. It’s a wonderful dictionary type reference guide that tells you the mental thought pattern that may be causing your physical ailment. It’s a quick and easy way to say, “there’s an aff for that!” The book also provides a positive affirmation to clear each negative energy pattern. The book has not disappointed me yet. It works wonders.

When I’m having an emotional or spiritual block, I turn to my other favorite affirmation guru, Deepak Chopra. Deepak’s The Soul of Healing – Affirmations can be downloaded from iTunes. Deepak reads affirmations while his musically inclined friend, Adam Plack, provides sexy, spiritual, background vibes. I love listening to Deepak. His voice is pure zen.

These are just a couple of ways to begin your positive energy journey. Much like gratitude, positive thinking is a practice. It’s easy to get off track and to let negativity take over. But with enough practice and enough affirmations, you will rewire your brain with positive energy. But until that happens, keep reminding yourself that there’s an aff for everything that ails you.

So start today on the right foot. Be positive. Be light. Love everything you have. Watch little Jessica do it. She always leaves me saying, “I’ll have what she’s having.”
